Roasting Breadfruit On Tree, Jamaica

The Breadfruit was said to have been first from to Jamaica, via Tahiti some almost three hundred years ago. It has since virally spread all over the island and is one of the national fruits. The fully fit fruit is roasted and usually eaten with ackee and sailfish, or steamed vegetables: callaloo, cabbage pad chop, etc. The younger, not fully matured fruit is boiled and eaten as you would a boiled Irish potato. It has the starchy consistency of bread, but only more wholesome and truly organic.
